A Fort Lauderdale woman has been arrested on felony animal cruelty charges after Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered a dog left tied to a backyard fence without nourishment or shelter for days.
The tragic incident occurred at a residence in the 2900 block of Northwest Eighth Place in Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida 33311, United States. Allyson Castillo reported on the arrest for WSVN (7 News Miami) on October 22, 2026.

According to an official arrest affidavit, 31-year-old Raynanda Herring went to the home on October 18 and found that a mixed-breed boxer named Pablo had soiled inside the residence.
Investigators state Herring subsequently moved the dog outside, attaching a six-foot leash to its collar and securing the other end to a backyard fence.
Due to the positioning of the leash, the dog was restricted to less than a foot of movement and was provided no food, water, or protection from the elements.
Herring admitted to deputies that she returned to the residence early Tuesday morning and saw Pablo was still alive, yet failed to provide him with food or water.
Although deputies advised her during a phone contact to reach out to animal control, she did not do so. The dog was found dead later that evening.
Herring was taken into custody on Wednesday and formally charged with causing the cruel death, pain, and suffering of an animal, as well as failing to provide sufficient food and water to a confined animal.
My thoughts:
- Tying domestic pets outside without basic sustenance or shelter causes severe physiological distress and fatal consequences.
- Animal neglect cases require swift interventions by law enforcement and municipal animal services to prevent loss of life.
- Legal consequences for severe animal cruelty help reinforce community standards and protect vulnerable pets.
- Educating pet owners on proper surrender processes offers safe alternatives when individuals cannot manage pet care responsibilities.
- Promptly contacting animal control authorities during pet health emergencies can prevent unnecessary animal suffering.
- Community reporting of suspected animal tethering or neglect plays a crucial role in safeguarding local animals.
