A Carson City man has been arrested in Nevada following a multi-month investigation into the December 9, 2025, shooting of a family dog inside a Truckee home.
The incident occurred at a residence on Deerfield Drive in Truckee, Nevada County, California 96161, United States. Coleman Petit reported on the law enforcement update for CBS Sacramento on October 22, 2026.

Truckee Police Department officers, working alongside regional law enforcement partners, arrested Gian Mendoza Silverio in Nevada on Wednesday.
Silverio is currently awaiting extradition to Nevada County, California, where he faces multiple felony charges, including stalking, felony animal cruelty, and vandalism.
According to investigators, Silverio specifically targeted the Deerfield Drive residence where the dog was shot.
However, police confirmed that the victims had no prior personal relationship or acquaintance with the suspect before the shooting occurred.
The suspect remains in custody pending extradition proceedings while authorities finalize formal charges in Nevada County.
My thoughts:
- Targeted attacks on residential homes present grave safety concerns for both human residents and domestic pets.
- Multi-jurisdictional cooperation between state authorities is critical when tracking suspects across state lines.
- Unprovoked violence against household animals often correlates with broader dangerous behaviors like stalking and vandalism.
- Long-term law enforcement investigations demonstrate a strong commitment to bringing animal cruelty suspects to justice.
- Extradition procedures ensure suspects face accountability in the jurisdiction where crimes are committed.
- Protecting pets within their own homes remains a fundamental aspect of residential community safety.
