The MSPCA-Angell, in collaboration with five partner organizations from the Massachusetts Animal Shelter Support (MASS) coalition, has announced a fee-waived dog adoption event running from October 23 through October 25, 2026.

The “Love is Fee Waived” initiative aims to find homes for at least 100 eligible dogs aged one and older across multiple facilities in Massachusetts, United States. The press release was published on October 22, 2026.

The adoption drive comes in response to severe shelter overcrowding, with dog adoptions down approximately 19% compared to the previous year while intake numbers remain high.

Capacity challenges have been further compounded by accepting dogs displaced by Hurricane Isaias.

To raise public awareness, ten cast members from Season 11 of Netflix’s reality dating series Love is Blind visited the MSPCA-Angell Boston Adoption Center on October 20 to meet available dogs and promote the adoptathon.

Adoption fees will be completely waived for adult dogs at MSPCA-Angell shelters in Boston, Salem, Methuen, and Centerville on Cape Cod.

Participating partner locations also include Boston Animal Control, Lowell Humane Society, Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center, Worcester Animal Rescue League, and Berkshire Humane Society. The event is supported in part by funding from Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

Shelter officials hope the high-profile collaboration will encourage local residents to open their homes to rescue dogs. Interested adopters can view participating pets and check varying facility hours on the MSPCA-Angell website.

My thoughts:

  • Leveraging popular culture and reality TV personalities helps amplify urgent shelter adoption calls to wider audiences.
  • Fee-waived adoption events provide financial relief to prospective owners while addressing critical shelter capacity limits.
  • Regional shelter coalitions enable coordinated responses when animal intake levels overwhelm individual facilities.
  • Corporate sponsorships from pet food brands play a vital role in subsidizing rescue operations and adoption drives.
  • Disaster relief efforts for displaced pets add significant operational pressure to local shelter systems.
  • Public engagement remains essential for maintaining steady adoption rates during periods of economic slowdown.
