A stray dog nicknamed Morocho became trapped in the Mapocho River in Santiago, Chile, after heavy rain sent water levels surging. CGTN reported the story on October 7, 2026.
Rescue teams made several attempts to reach him. The strong current eventually swept him away anyway.

Against the odds, Morocho managed to find his way to the riverbank. He was later taken to safety.
He is now recovering under care. Morocho is waiting for a second chance, a safe and loving home to call his own.
My thoughts:
The detail that stands out is that the rescue attempts didn’t actually save him. Teams tried several times and the current won, and it was Morocho who got himself to the riverbank.
That’s a reminder of how fast a swollen river can overpower even trained rescuers. It also makes the ending harder to take for granted, since a stray dog on his own had to do the last and hardest part himself.
The report doesn’t say how long he was in the water or what condition he’s in, so there’s not much more to confirm. What it does say is that he’s alive, being cared for, and still needs a home.
