The Westport, Connecticut Parks & Recreation Department is reminding residents and visitors that dogs will be allowed at Compo Beach from October 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027, under a set of seasonal rules. The announcement was posted September 29, 2026.

Dogs are prohibited from the Pavilion, playground, and walkways, but are allowed leashed throughout the rest of the park.

There’s also a designated off-leash area on the beach south of the Pavilion, including South Beach, with off-leash regulations posted at that area’s entrance.

Owners are required by law to pick up after their dogs. Violating any of these regulations carries a $77 fine.

The department also reminded residents that animals are prohibited from town athletic fields and playgrounds year-round, a policy meant to protect public safety, support athletic programs, and maintain field conditions.

Because Luciano Park consists entirely of an athletic field and playground, dogs are barred from that park entirely.

Animals are welcome in surrounding areas near these facilities, though owners are encouraged to keep them leashed nearby.

My thoughts: This one is useful mainly as a practical heads-up rather than a story with much drama to it, but that’s exactly the kind of post that’s genuinely helpful for local dog owners planning their fall and winter walks.

The off-leash window at South Beach is probably the detail people will care about most, six months of a popular local spot opening back up, and the $77 fine is a concrete enough number that it’s worth including rather than just a vague “fines apply.”
