Miss Finster, a dog cared for by Big Dog Ranch Rescue in Florida, was taken in by the shelter in 2023. She was pregnant at the time and gave birth to her puppies shortly after arriving. In the years since, every one of her puppies has found a forever home. Miss Finster is still waiting for hers.

The shelter shared a sketch video on Instagram showing Miss Finster at the reception desk, excitedly “asking” a staff member if anyone has shown interest in adopting her. The employee gives her the same answer she’s had to give for the past three years, that there are no applications for her yet. “Maybe tomorrow will be your day,” the receptionist tells her, and the dog “responds” through onscreen text, “Okay… I’ll be here. You know where to find me.”
“Our heart hurts for Miss Finster,” the team wrote in the post. “She’s been waiting since 2023, watching her puppies find their forever homes while she continues to wait for someone to choose her.” According to her caretakers, Miss Finster is 4 years old, loves toys, staying active, and spending time with people, and already knows her basic commands.
Within a day of being posted, the video had gone viral, drawing an outpouring of supportive comments from viewers. As of this writing though, that attention hadn’t yet translated into any actual adoption interest. “Miss Finster is such a light in everyone’s day here at the Ranch,” her caretakers said. “We know one day someone will see just how special she is and how deserving she is of a home to call her own.”
My thoughts: There’s a specific kind of sadness in a video going viral, being flooded with comments telling a dog how special she is, and none of that turning into the one thing she actually needs. It’s a good reminder that virality and outcomes aren’t the same thing, a video can reach millions of people and still not reach the one person willing to fill out an application. Three years is a long time to keep giving the same dog the same disappointing answer at the front desk, hopefully this post is the one that finally changes it.
