A missing rescue dog named Seth is back home with his new owners after spending nearly three weeks loose in Jersey.

Seth, a small white rescue dog brought over from Bulgaria, managed to scramble over a 4ft wall and disappear after spending only a single night at his new home in St Ouen.

The search effort was led by Gail Bennie from the Lost Dogs in Jersey Facebook group after social media posts reported sightings of Seth moving toward St Mary.

Bennie mobilized a wide support network to track him down, bringing in assistance from vets, local police, government officials, news outlets, and local businesses that provided cages, cameras, and treats.

To lure the skittish dog into safety, Bennie prepared a freshly roasted, free-range organic chicken. She kept the chicken wrapped warm in tinfoil and poured its juices into a preheated flask so the aroma would spread across the area.

Though Seth had been offered various high-value treats, it was the warm roast chicken that ultimately succeeded in bringing him in after 20 days.

Reflecting on the successful capture, Bennie told BBC Radio Jersey:

“There’s a huge mixture of emotions. It’s mainly relief that we know he’s safe back with his owners and can take the medication he needs, and that is wonderful. But I did feel sad at how frightened he was when he saw me because you can’t avoid the feeling of sadness when you see a terrified little dog.”

Bennie noted that Seth’s owners remain fully committed to his long-term care and adaptation. Within three hours of returning indoors, Seth had already shown signs of settling in by hopping up onto the sofa right next to his owner.
