Police officers are often praised for their bravery and heroism in protecting human lives.

However, their duty extends beyond just humans.

In fact, rescuing and safeguarding animals can be just as fulfilling for these courageous individuals.

This story shared by the Auguste Maine Police Station is an emotional tale that showcases the compassion and dedication police officers have for all creatures, great and small.

An Emergency Call That Will Change The Officer’s Life

On July 16, 2020, Augusta Police Officer, Sara Rogers, received an emergency call to rescue an injured dog that had been abandoned on the streets of Augusta.

As a compassionate officer, Sara quickly responded to the call and rushed to the scene to help the little pup.

Upon arriving, Sara carefully placed the puppy in the passenger seat of her vehicle and immediately drove her to the vet for medical attention.

While the vets were treating the puppy’s injuries, Sara and her colleagues tirelessly searched for the owner, but unfortunately, their efforts were in vain.

The veterinarian asked if Sara could keep an eye on the puppy throughout the night until the Kennebec Humane Society staff arrived for work, and she gladly accepted.

It was as if Sara knew that something special was going to happen.

Little did Sara know that this emergency call would change her life forever.

The abandoned puppy would soon become her loyal companion and best friend, bringing joy and love into her life every day.

A Special Moment of Unbreakable Bonding

Officer Rogers had a special connection with the puppy she had been checking on during her night shift.

She would spend as much time as possible with the pup, even taking her meal break with her new furry friend. It was during this meal break that they created an unbreakable bond.

As time went on, Officer Rogers decided to foster the puppy until she became available for adoption.

Her entire family fell in love with their new tenant, and they were all sad to see her go when the time came.

However, when the dog became available for adoption, Officer Rogers couldn’t bear to say goodbye.

She named the puppy Rey, after her favorite Star Wars Jedi character, and decided to give her a new home.

Rey’s new life was filled with nothing but love from that moment on.

This heartwarming story was shared by the Augusta Maine Police Department on their official Facebook profile, with a note at the end that said, “You have to love happy endings!”

It’s moments like these that remind us of the unbreakable bond between humans and animals.

Officer Rogers’ love and compassion for this puppy changed her life forever, and it’s a beautiful reminder of the power of kindness and empathy.
