A North Carolina teenager entered a federal guilty plea on Thursday for operating a multi-year dogfighting breeding and training ring that supplied fighting dogs across social media networks.

The federal prosecution and plea proceedings took place in Statesville, North Carolina 28677, United States. FOX Local reported on the guilty plea and Department of Justice announcements on October 17, 2026.

Federal prosecutors stated that 19-year-old Juelz Christopher Daniels of Statesville, North Carolina, pleaded guilty to violating the federal Animal Welfare Act.

According to court documents, Daniels and an alleged co-conspirator, Reginald Lionel Goodson, operated commercial kennels and bred, trained, and sold fighting dogs over a five-year span from January 2021 to May 2026.

Investigators uncovered the illicit operation after executing simultaneous search warrants across three residential properties linked to the suspects, successfully rescuing at least 25 dogs, including several young puppies.

Prosecutors revealed that Daniels actively advertised the dogs on Facebook groups dedicated to illegal dogfighting, utilizing Facebook Messenger to coordinate sales while knowing buyers intended to use the animals for combat.

Daniels currently remains in federal custody pending a future sentencing hearing, while separate federal charges against Goodson remain pending.

The case highlights ongoing federal enforcement efforts to dismantle organized dogfighting rings and protect animals from extreme abuse.

My thoughts:

Utilizing social media platforms like Facebook groups and private messaging for illegal animal sales demonstrates how modern cyber platforms facilitate illicit wildlife and pet trafficking rings.

Executing coordinated multi-location search warrants is essential for rescuing captive animals and seizing breeding equipment before suspects can relocate.

Federal prosecution under the Animal Welfare Act provides robust legal mechanisms to combat organized dogfighting beyond local animal control ordinances.

Comprehensive veterinary rehabilitation is critical for rescued dogfighting dogs, many of which suffer from severe behavioral trauma and physical neglect.

Community tips and digital footprint tracking play a pivotal role in helping federal investigators map out multi-year criminal conspiracies.

Strengthening platform-level moderation against animal abuse groups remains vital to prevent criminal operators from openly marketing fighting dogs online.
