A missing dog walked up to the door of the Tampa Police Department’s District Two Office on North 30th Street on September 30, 2026. Body camera video captured what happened next.

Officers checked the dog’s microchip and found his owner. “Our K-9 roster is currently full,” TPD said, adding that they made sure their “hopeful recruit” was safely reunited with his owner instead.
Video shows the owner embracing the dog as he stepped out of a patrol vehicle. “I was crying this morning,” she said when she learned he’d been found.
“Thank you, sir. Thank you. He made me crazy!” she told the officer. TPD summed it up in their post: “He may not have gotten the job, but he definitely stole our hearts.”
My thoughts:
The detail that makes this one work is how simple the chain of events was. The dog walked up to a building full of people who could help, and the microchip did the rest.
It’s also a good reminder of why chip registration matters. Without that scan, this would have been a lost dog and a worried owner for much longer, instead of a reunion caught on body camera.
