A 39-year-old woman sustained severe injuries and a responding police officer was bitten during a dog attack involving three family pets in Hazel Park, Michigan. Karma Sabbah and Paula Wethington reported on the violent incident for CBS Detroit on November 2, 2026.

Hazel Park Police Department officers responded to a 911 emergency call at 8:17 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026, regarding an active dog attack on the 1800 block of East Milton in Hazel Park, Oakland County, Michigan 48030, United States.

Upon arrival, responding officers found the victim lying on the driveway while being mauled by three large dogs, identified as two pit bulls and one Presa Canario.

The initial officer deployed a Taser twice to disrupt the attack, but the animals continued to aggressively circle the victim and officers.

During the escalation, one officer suffered a dog bite to her thigh before discharging her service weapon at one of the animals.

As officers attempted to render emergency medical aid to the victim, the wounded dog and a second animal charged back toward them, prompting another officer to shoot and kill the aggressive dog.

The remaining two dogs fled the scene but were located shortly afterward by law enforcement.

Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of severe lacerations to her neck, arms, and legs.

The injured police officer was also treated at an area hospital and subsequently released.

Investigating officers learned that all three dogs belonged to the victim and her husband, though none of the animals were registered with local municipal authorities.

A household resident told police that the attack began inside the residence after the victim brought home a stray puppy, causing the three resident dogs to attack her and drag her out into the driveway.

Animal Control officers seized the two surviving dogs and are holding them as the investigation continues.

My thoughts:

  • Introducing unfamiliar stray animals into homes with existing large dogs can trigger sudden territorial pack aggression.
  • Municipal pet registration regulations help local authorities track domestic animal populations and enforce safety protocols.
  • Responding officers face extreme personal hazards when intervening in active maulings by multiple aggressive dogs.
  • Non-lethal tools like Tasers may prove ineffective when attempting to stop highly agitated or attacking dogs.
  • Immediate medical transport and trauma evaluation are critical for victims suffering extensive animal bite injuries.
  • Animal Control impoundment ensures public safety while law enforcement completes formal attack investigations.
