Beachgoers along Fort Lauderdale’s New River did a double take earlier this year when a video began circulating showing a dog confidently riding a jet ski across the water while her owner soared beside her on a jet-propelled hoverboard.

The dog, a golden retriever named Loosy, and her owner, Eddie Inch, quickly became an online sensation after the footage racked up more than two million views. One bystander, 31-year-old YouTuber Aldo Hafez, said he was relaxing on his balcony when he spotted the pair and initially thought he was hallucinating before grabbing his phone to film it himself.

Inch told local reporters the idea actually grew out of a practical problem. He said it first came to him around 2022, after repeatedly getting turned away from places when he asked people to watch Loosy while he went out on his hydrofoil board. Rather than keep leaving her behind, he decided to find a way to bring her along instead. He described the moment it clicked, saying she simply stayed in place on the watercraft and the idea took off from there. He said his real motivation was avoiding the sadness he saw in her whenever she had to be left alone.

The unusual sight sparked plenty of online debate, with some viewers questioning whether the footage had been digitally altered. Inch has firmly denied that, saying the setup is real and that Loosy is fully trained and comfortable riding the watercraft while being towed at controlled speeds. He said the two spend hours at a time out on the water together, and that Loosy is completely locked in every time they go.

For Inch, the viral fame is secondary to what actually matters to him: making sure Loosy never has to be left behind again. He said everything about his setup is built around bringing her along, so she’s never alone while he’s out enjoying the water.
