You and your furry best friend share an unbreakable bond, don’t you?

That’s exactly how Randy Etter felt about his pup Gemini.

Their connection was so strong that when Gemini started acting off, Randy knew something was seriously wrong.

It all started when Gemini became lethargic and clingy, following Randy around like a little shadow.

Then, the poor pup started vomiting, and Randy’s heart sank. He rushed Gemini to the vet, but getting to the root of the problem was like trying to solve a frustrating puzzle.

The vet couldn’t figure out what was ailing Gemini, but Randy wasn’t about to give up on his best friend.

He would move heaven and earth to get Gemini the help he needed. Randy was so laser-focused on finding a vet who could treat Gemini that he even lost his job while desperately vet-hopping.

Despite visiting multiple vets, nobody seemed to have the answer. Randy shared, “[I]t just seemed like I wasn’t gonna get anywhere or get him the help he needed in time. It was truly one of the scariest things I had to deal with.”

But finally, after what must have felt like an eternity, the culprit was identified – a small object was lodged in Gemini’s intestines.

As it turned out, Randy’s girlfriend’s baby girl had been playing a game of toss with Gemini, throwing her bottle for him to fetch.

Randy had been diligent about quickly removing the bottle whenever the baby threw it, but at some point, sneaky Gemini had gotten hold of it and swallowed a bit of the top, causing a blockage.

The surgery to remove the obstruction would cost a whopping $4,500 – a sum Randy didn’t have on hand.

But there was no way he was going to let his beloved Gemini suffer. With a heavy heart, Randy took to Facebook, pouring out his story and putting his car up for sale.

If he could sell it, he’d have the funds to save Gemini’s life.

But then, something beautiful happened.

First, Randy’s friend stepped up and offered to loan him $2,000.

Then, the S.O.A.R Initiative (whose “focus is on securing the human-animal bond and improving access to veterinary care & human services for those who are typically underserved”) raised another $3,000 for Gemini’s surgery.

Can you imagine the relief Randy must have felt?

dThanks to the kindness and generosity of everyone who donated, Gemini made it through the surgery like a champ and was soon back in his pet-dad’s loving arms, where he belonged.

So the next time you look into your furry companion’s adoring eyes, remember – true love knows no bounds, and the bond you share is worth fighting for, no matter what.
