True to his name, Hero, an Akita from Taber, Alberta, became a real-life savior for his owner.

Braving the freezing temperatures, which dipped to a chilling –17 C, Hero stood guard over his owner, who was trapped in a muddy ditch for several days, unable to escape.

Not only did he shield his owner from the harsh weather, but he also valiantly fended off coyotes before finally leading rescuers to the spot where his owner lay immobile.
