How This Sweet Dog’s 900-Day Wait Ended in Heartache—and What You Can Do to Help

Sora, a beautiful black Labrador Pitbull mix, first came to Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, nearly four years ago after her previous owner had to give her up.

Since then, this sweet girl hasn’t gotten much attention from potential adopters.

Heartbreaking Setback

Recently, it looked like Sora’s luck had finally changed. Someone came to the shelter and decided to adopt her.

Everyone was thrilled, and Sora seemed overjoyed to be heading to a new home.

But heartbreakingly, she was returned less than 24 hours later.

The new owner felt overwhelmed by the attention and training Sora needed and brought her back.

Valley Animal Center explained that Sora’s previous owner surrendered her in July 2021 because they realized she needed more care than they could provide.

The shelter described Sora as a sweet, energetic pup who would thrive in an active household.

She’s the perfect companion for long walks or bike rides.

Sadly, despite her wonderful personality, she’s spent nearly four years in a kennel without much interest from adopters.

Hope for a Brighter Future

When someone finally showed interest in Sora, everyone was ecstatic. Sora herself was so happy, thinking she’d found her forever home at last.

But her happiness was short-lived. The day after her adoption, her new owner called the shelter to return her. Sora’s dreams were shattered, and she was heartbroken.

Sim Kaur from Valley Animal Center told Newsweek that Sora didn’t get enough time to settle into her new home and was introduced to new family members too quickly. You can only imagine how this poor dog must feel, especially after spending over 900 days in a kennel.

Looking for Love and Patience

Despite this setback, the shelter remains hopeful that there’s someone out there who can mend Sora’s broken heart and give her the happy life she deserves.

While shelters do their best to provide physical enrichment and love, it’s never the same as a loving home.

Spending almost four years in the shelter has taken a toll on Sora, who has developed some anxious behaviors.

The shelter’s certified dog trainer, Mariah Prudhume, believes that with a loving home, Sora’s mental health would dramatically improve.

With patience and love, Sora could transform into the happy and goofy dog she’s meant to be.

Sora is a wonderful dog who deserves a proper chance. She’s great with humans and children over five years old but needs to be the only pet in the household.

She needs a family willing to dedicate time to train her and, most importantly, never give up on her again.

Sora is still looking for her forever home and someone who will love and cherish her. If you think you could be that special person, Sora is waiting for you.
