A 3-year-old boy died after being attacked by his family’s dog Friday morning, October 2, 2026, at a home on Walnut Street in Sulligent, Alabama, according to the Lamar County coroner. The boy was taken to the hospital after the attack but did not survive.

Sulligent Police Chief Michael Franklin said the dog belonged to the boy’s family. After the attack, the family surrendered the animal to police, who transported it to a veterinarian in Russellville, where it was euthanized. Franklin said the county health department ordered both the euthanasia and testing of the dog. As of this report, authorities had not said whether any charges were expected in the case, and the family had not been identified.
My thoughts: There isn’t much to add to a story like this beyond what’s been reported. A family lost a child in their own home, and whatever they’re going through right now, it’s not something anyone outside that situation can really speak to. The known facts are still limited, no breed, no details about the circumstances leading up to the attack, and that’s worth respecting rather than filling in with speculation. If more information comes out as the investigation continues, it may be worth a follow-up, but for now this is simply what’s confirmed.
