A Chesapeake, Virginia dog trainer is facing criminal charges over her alleged treatment of both her own pets and dogs in her care. Kiley Wright, who runs Ki’s K9 Training, has been charged with one count of animal cruelty and multiple counts of failing to provide proper food, water, and shelter.

Investigators say a dog belonging to Wright died while in her care. Former clients have also come forward with their own concerns.

One former client said her dogs lost weight, were dehydrated, and were covered in dirt after a two-week board-and-train program. She said she received only one video of the training during that time.

“I walked into that room, and I didn’t even recognize [my dog],” she told 13News Now.

The case began when friends of Wright reported her to animal control. They said they found dog crates with feces caked onto them and cans of pet food filled with fly larvae.

They said they were worried about the safety of the other animals in her care.

My thoughts:

What stands out is how the case reached investigators. It wasn’t a client complaint that started it, it was friends who saw the conditions firsthand and decided to report them.

It’s also a pointed reminder about board-and-train programs, where owners hand their dogs over for weeks and often see very little of what happens. A single training video over two weeks, as one client described, is exactly the kind of gap that’s worth asking about before you drop a dog off.
