Two Ameren utility workers enjoyed a heartwarming reunion on Thursday with a stray dog they helped save near a St. Louis power substation earlier this summer. First Alert 4 reported on the reunion on October 16, 2026.

In July, Ameren employees Ed Schmidt and Anthony Hall discovered the frightened dog taking shelter inside a shed near the company’s Page substation. While waiting for assistance, Hall coaxed the hungry pup using his own lunch. The workers contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis, whose rescue team safely retrieved the dog and named him Sparky in honor of his electrical substation rescue location.
Following his rescue and rehabilitation at the shelter, Sparky was successfully adopted into a permanent home. During Thursday’s reunion, his new owner shared that Sparky has adjusted smoothly to domestic life and is thriving in his new environment.
My thoughts:
- Community vigilance by field service workers often serves as a vital safety net for stray animals lost in industrial areas.
- Immediate outreach to local rescue organizations ensures stray animals receive proper medical evaluation and shelter placement.
- Heartwarming reunions highlight the lasting impact rescue efforts have on both adopted pets and their original rescuers.
