Actor Sir Patrick Stewart and his wife, musician Sunny Ozell, welcomed a foster pit bull named Ginger into their home through the Los Angeles-based rescue group Wags and Walks.
Arin Greenwood reported on the viral foster story on March 20, 2017.

Ginger was originally rescued from a Los Angeles area shelter by Lesley Brog, founder of Wags and Walks, an initiative partner with No-Kill Los Angeles and Best Friends Animal Society.
The dog spent time at the Best Friends NKLA Pet Adoption Center in Los Angeles, California 90025, United States, before being matched with Stewart.
Stewart decided to foster a pit bull while working on an anti-dogfighting campaign in partnership with the ASPCA.
After Wags and Walks facilitated the placement, social media videos documenting Ginger’s daily life with Stewart and Ozell quickly went viral across Facebook and other platforms.
Marc Peralta, executive director of Best Friends Los Angeles, noted that the widespread popularity of the videos helped challenge public misconceptions surrounding pit bull terriers while highlighting the positive impacts of fostering homeless shelter animals.
My thoughts:
High-profile celebrity fostering significantly raises public awareness for shelter animal adoption programs.
Collaborations between local rescue organizations and national anti-cruelty campaigns expand outreach capabilities.
Social media storytelling helps dispel harmful breed-specific stereotypes regarding pit bull terriers.
Temporary foster homes provide critical transitional environments for shelter dogs awaiting permanent placement.
Dedicated shelter networks like NKLA play a crucial role in reducing euthanasia rates in municipal facilities.
Positive interactions between high-profile figures and rescue pets encourage community involvement in animal welfare.
