Why Coconut is a Coat Champion
Coconut oil is the star of this treat. It’s known for being great for skin and hair, even for humans. For dogs, it can do a lot of good things for their coat. It helps make their fur shiny and soft.
It can also help with dry, flaky skin. And that’s why it matters for a healthy coat. Coconut oil has fatty acids that nourish their skin from the inside out. Just make sure to use virgin, unrefined coconut oil.

The Benefits of Blueberries
Blueberries are tiny but mighty. They’re full of antioxidants. These are compounds that help protect your dog’s cells from damage. Think of them as little bodyguards for their health.
They also have vitamins C and K. These are good for their immune system. Plus, dogs usually love the taste of blueberries. They add a nice sweetness to the treat.
Adding a Touch of Yogurt
Plain, unsweetened yogurt is another great ingredient. It has probiotics. These are good bacteria that help keep your dog’s gut healthy. A healthy gut often means a healthier coat.
It also adds some calcium for strong bones. Always use plain yogurt, without any added sugars or artificial sweeteners. Xylitol, a common sweetener, is very toxic to dogs. So, always check the label.
Making Your Coconut Coolers
This recipe is super simple. You don’t need any fancy equipment. Just a blender and some ice cube trays or silicone molds.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup virgin, unrefined coconut oil (melted if solid)
- 1/2 cup plain, unsweetened yogurt
- 1/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1/4 cup water (or low-sodium chicken broth for extra flavor)
Instructions:
- If your coconut oil is solid, gently melt it. You can do this by putting the jar in a bowl of warm water. Or you can microwave it for a few seconds.
- Put the melted coconut oil, yogurt, blueberries, and water (or broth) into a blender.
- Blend everything until it’s smooth. You want a nice, even mixture.
- Pour the mixture into ice cube trays or silicone molds. Small molds are usually best for treats.
- Place the trays in the freezer. Let them freeze for at least 2-3 hours. Or until they are completely solid.
- Once frozen, pop them out of the molds. Store them in an airtight container in the freezer.

Serving and Storage Tips
These Coconut Coolers are best served frozen. They’re a refreshing treat on a hot day. Give them to your dog one at a time. The size of the treat should match your dog’s size. A small dog might only need half of an ice cube-sized treat.
You can store these treats in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. Just make sure they’re in a sealed container. This keeps them fresh and prevents freezer burn.

A Word on Moderation
Even though these treats are healthy, they should still be given in moderation. Coconut oil is high in calories. So, too many treats can lead to weight gain. Think of them as a special snack, not a meal replacement.
Always introduce new treats slowly. Give your dog one small piece first. Watch how they react. If they have any digestive upset, stop giving them the treat. And as always, if you have concerns about your dog’s diet or health, talk to your vet.

FAQ
Can I use other fruits in these treats?
Yes, you can. Strawberries, raspberries, and small pieces of apple (without seeds) are also good choices. Make sure any fruit you use is safe for dogs.
My dog has a sensitive stomach. Will these treats be okay?
Start with a very small amount to see how your dog reacts. The yogurt can be good for digestion, but some dogs might be sensitive to coconut oil if given too much. If you’re worried, talk to your vet first.
How often can I give my dog these treats?
It depends on your dog’s size and overall diet. For most medium-sized dogs, one or two small treats a day is usually fine. Always consider their total calorie intake for the day.
