A heroic pet dog named Moe is missing after waking three residents and alerting them to an early morning house fire in Spanish Springs.
The fire occurred just before 4:00 a.m. on October 15, 2026, at a home along Greenwing Drive, near Eagle Canyon Drive and West Calle De La Plata, in Spanish Springs, Washoe County, Nevada 89441, United States.
2 News Nevada reported on the fire investigation and subsequent search efforts on October 24, 2026.

Fire crews from Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue and Sparks Fire arrived at the scene to find the home heavily engulfed. Thanks to early warnings from Moe and functioning smoke detectors, all three human residents escaped the structure without injury, though the blaze left the family displaced.
Following the fire, Moe went missing and was last seen in the Sun Valley area near 4th Street and Sun Valley Boulevard. Moe is described as a long-haired black Retriever.
The family is urgently seeking the public’s help to reunite with their dog and has asked anyone with information regarding Moe’s whereabouts to call (775) 544-0898 or (775) 437-3864.
My thoughts:
- Domestic pets frequently act as life-saving early warning systems during sudden house fires.
- Displaced families face severe emotional stress when searching for missing pets following structural fires.
- Working smoke alarms combined with animal alerts maximize evacuation success during early morning hours.
- Community involvement is essential for locating lost pets following disaster evacuations.
- Rapid response from local fire departments prevents structural blazes from spreading to adjacent properties.
- Emergency planning should include immediate pet containment steps during home evacuations.
