A West Michigan mother who found herself unexpectedly caring for two neglected street dogs is now grappling with a difficult choice, how to keep the bonded pair safe without risking them being separated. Posting under the handle @skaymick on TikTok, she shared a video on March 13, 2026 that struck an emotional chord with viewers, going on to reach more than 110,000 views and almost 9,000 likes.

The clip showed two dogs, believed to be strays, eating from bowls inside a makeshift shelter she’d set up on her porch, before curling up together among blankets. “These two sweet babies keep coming to my house,” she wrote in the caption. “It’s clear they aren’t being taken care of, and the last few cold days broke my heart. I set up a bed and blankets for them and gave them food. They are the sweetest souls and are so attached to each other.”
The video quickly drew attention, with viewers offering both sympathy and practical advice. Some urged her to adopt the pair outright, others suggested reaching out to local rescue organizations and even offered to help fund their care, while several commenters expressed concern that the dogs appeared to need medical attention. The response highlighted a tension familiar to many who come across strays, the immediate instinct to help running into the practical difficulty of long term care, made harder here by how visibly attached the two dogs were to each other and the fear that a shelter or animal control could end up separating them.
A day later, on March 14, she posted an update showing more small but meaningful improvements. “They started their morning with butt pats, lots of love, and some treats,” she wrote, adding that she’d since bought more food, straw for warmth, and supplies to gently clean the dogs and tend to their visible wounds. She’d also repositioned their shelter to make it safer and more comfortable. “Please keep sharing so we can find a rescue or a loving home that will keep them together,” she wrote. “I’m doing my research as well!” She confirmed a GoFundMe had also been launched to support their care, turning what started as a spontaneous act of kindness into a community backed effort.
My thoughts: What’s notable here isn’t just that someone decided to help two strays, that happens constantly and rarely goes viral on its own. It’s the specific dilemma she’s stuck in, wanting to do right by two animals who are clearly bonded to each other, while knowing that going through official channels could split them up. That’s a real tension without an obviously correct answer, and it’s probably part of why so many people jumped in with suggestions rather than just sympathy, everyone watching seemed to recognize there wasn’t an easy fix here, just a woman trying to buy enough time to find one.
