Gerald, a gentle senior rescue dog, had been waiting since January for someone to choose him. This week, he finally got a day full of warmth, laughter, and attention, courtesy of actors Sally Field and Lewis Pullman, who sat down with him for a special “Dodo Dream Date.”

Gerald is currently available for adoption through the rescue organization Wags and Walks. Despite his calm temperament and soulful expression, he’d remained without a permanent home for months, a common reality for older shelter dogs, who are frequently passed over in favor of puppies. During his date with Field and Pullman, that gap between Gerald and the spotlight closed for at least one afternoon.
The segment brought the pair together with Gerald while they were also promoting their new Netflix film, Remarkably Bright Creatures, a story centered on unlikely bonds and human connection. The pairing turned out to be fitting, as Gerald spent the date calmly soaking up attention while Field and Pullman worked through a jar filled with questions and treats, chatting about their careers, their pets, and their personal lives in between moments of playing with him.
Throughout the date, Gerald remained the clear star of the segment, charming both actors with his relaxed nature and affectionate presence. As the day wound down, Field and Pullman helped prepare a set of gifts intended for whoever eventually gives Gerald his forever home.
For a dog who has spent months waiting to be noticed, Gerald’s Dream Date offered a reminder that his story isn’t over yet, and that somewhere out there is a home still waiting to find him.
